About research

PSE strengthens the subject didactics and educational science research activities at Ruhr University Bochum through various means. In the Center of Educational Studies (CoES), professors and post-doctoral researchers are supported with regard to external funding, networking for collaborative research, expertise in empirical research methods and increasing international visibility.
In addition, PSE has been offering a specific support programme - the Graduate School of Educational Studies (GSoES) - since 2012 to promote PhD candidates in subject didactics and educational sciences. The target group includes academic staff and scholarship holders as well as seconded teachers and external doctoral candidates. One focus of the programme is on training doctoral students in quantitative and qualitative research methods as well as on promoting academic exchange. Furthermore, financial support is offered on application.
Since 2013, PSE has also been funding an interdisciplinary doctoral network researching the authenticity of teaching sciences in the learning environment of student labs. The doctoral programme is currently in its third cohort - four scholarship holders are working on questions relating to "Metacognitive monitoring in authentic teaching-learning contexts in student labs" (MeMo-akS).
